This year’s Ornamo Design Award was presented on 29 September 2011 to SIO interior architect Susan Elo and her upcoming Design Senior furnishing concept.
Design Senior is a concept package which incorporates a furniture range for senior citizens living at home – together with services for maintaining, repairing and modifying products. The goal of the concept is to improve conditions for living at home and thereby enhance welfare. The products combine longevity, aesthetics and adaptability to various circumstances.
”Senior citizens nowadays are active and appreciate aesthetics. Instead of institutionalization, they prefer to continue living at home for as long as possible. There is room for new innovations and tasteful options, not only in Finland but certainly also abroad. Design Senior is more than a furniture range – it is a vision of a stylish brand for senior citizens combining Scandinavian design with Finnish technology and aesthetic values”, Susan Elo explains.
The winner selected by Pekka Paasikivi, chairman of the influential financial sector enterprise Oras Invest Oy. The award is granted by the Ornamo Foundation.
