Arabia, whose roots and home in Helsinki go back to 1873, drew inspiration from the Finnish capital being named the World Design Capital® (WDC) 2012 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid).
The mug collection is based on Kaj Franck’s minimalist, and for its time, radical design of 1952. Miira Zukale, who graduated from the School of Art and Design in 2007, designed the decorations, reflecting the cheerful, cosy atmosphere of Arabia’s home town. The mugs have four themes (Park, Sea, Block, Downtown), reminiscent of Helsinki’s architecture, coastal landscape, parks, markets and best means of transport – trams and bicycles.
